Jesse Tree Ornament Exchange Informational Meeting
12 PM, 1 HR
Grace Kids is again organizing a Jesse Tree Ornament Exchange, and we’re inviting anyone with interest to take part!
What is the Jesse Tree?
The Jesse tree represents Jesus’ family tree. The name is taken from Isaiah 11:1, in which Jesus is referred to as a shoot coming up from the stump of Jesse, the father of David. The Jesse Tree Ornament Exchange is an Advent countdown over 25 days that beautifully unfolds how stories in the Old Testament point to Christ’s coming. The goal is for our children (of all ages!) to understand that Christmas is all about Jesus!
How does the Jesse Tree Ornament Exchange work?
There is one Bible story/devotional per day starting December 1st until the birth of Jesus on the 25th. Along with the Bible reading, your family opens one ornament a day that you put on your Jesse Tree (or your Christmas tree).
We will ask you to sign up to make 25 of one ornament. There will be 24 other participants who are making 25 ornaments for their assigned day. At the ornament exchange on November 17, you will walk away with a set of 25 different ornaments for each day of Advent.
While making a set of ornaments takes work, once you have a set, you can use them year after year. Many participants will want to participate in the project multiple times so that each child/grandchild has their own set of Jesse tree ornaments once they grow up.
I want to participate – what should I know before signing up?
With your help, we will be able to make and collect all 25 of the Jesse tree ornaments! A few more details:
- There is an optional meeting on Sunday, October 6th at noon in the Hearthstone Room (Grace Kids Hall Room A9) where we will go over the details of creating ornaments and show you some examples. Please Note: You do NOT have to be an artist to participate! Also, anyone who would like a set is welcome. You don’t have to be a part of Grace Kids!
- At the sign-up link below, you will select an ornament/Bible story and you will be responsible for making 25 of the same ornament for the exchange.
- Be creative or use resources to come up with a visual concept for your assigned day’s devotion (there are tons of ideas out there on blogs, Pinterest, etc., so no need to be intimidated by this).
- Attend the ornament-swapping party on November 17th at 7:30 PM in the Hearthstone Room (Grace Kids Hall Room A9) to distribute your ornaments and collect the others. It is extremely important to attend because this is when you will receive your 24 other Jesse tree ornaments that other group members have made for you!
- Purchase the Jesse Tree Advent Devotional, and starting on December 1st, read the Jesse Tree devotional with your children.
Interested?
If you are ready to pick your ornament and participate, please respond by clicking here. October 7th is the deadline to sign up so we can fill in any gaps and give people plenty of time to make their ornaments.
You do not need to register for the optional meeting on Sunday, October 6.
Your friends in Grace Kids are so excited to get into the Christmas spirit with you and celebrate JESUS!
